Born to Adam and Elizabeth (Schaeffer) Hoeh, John Michael Hoeh (Hoh with an umlaut) came to this country when he was very young. He settled in Pittsburgh, PA, and ran, along with his sons, J.M. Hoeh & Sons (Cigars and Tobacco) at 169 Fifth Avenue, in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Mr. Hoeh also served on a Pittsburgh Select Council at one time, representing the 23rd Ward.

Mr. Hoeh was prominent in the Knights of Pythias.

Mr. Hoeh lived on Joincaire Street, and later at 221 Bouquet Street, both in Oakland.

John Michael Hoeh also "donated" some land for Schenley Park (I think it was valued at $10,000 in the early 1890s). It appears he did not give the land, it was taken in some manner.
