Louis "Joe" Greenwood deCheubel, of Columbia, formerly of Laurel, died Sept. 18, 2006, at his residence. He was 69.

Born July 16, 1937, in Simpsonville, he attended St. Louis Catholic School, in Clarksville, and graduated from Howard High School in 1955.

From 1955 to 1959, he served in the U.S. Navy as a third-class machinist mate.

He worked as an auto mechanic at the Montgomery Ward department store in Laurel from 1969 to 1999.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Laurel for more than 40 years.

Mr. deCheubel was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Sarah James deCheubel; three brothers, John deCheubel, Fred deCheubel and Frances deCheubel; and a sister, Ruth Pocock.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Thelma Marie deCheubel; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Tina and Rob Linder, of Alabaster, Ala., Cindy and Butch Sacks, of Columbia, and Connie deCheubel, of Columbia; three brothers, Bill deCheubel, of Richmond, Va., Lee deCheubel, of Elkridge, and Tom deCheubel, of West Virginia; two sisters, Mary Spicer, of Ellicott City, and Ann Widner, of Florida; six grandchildren, Eddie Sacks, of Laurel, Jeff Sacks, of Fort Benning, Ga., Shannon Patterson, of Laurel, David and Michael Linder, of Alabaster, and Daniel "Bugg" Patterson, of Laurel; and four great-grandchildren, Hope and Vincent Sacks, of Laurel, and Vanessa and Amanda Sacks, of Fort Benning.

Funeral services were held Sept. 20, 2006, at Donaldson Funeral Home Chapel in Laurel. The Rev. Jack Fitzgerald, of Alberta Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Columbia, presided. Interment followed at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville.
