Arrangements are under the direction of the Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. So. - Nampa - 466-3545.

Russell was born on April 1, 1920 in Almond, Wisconsin, the son of Russell E. and Anna E. (Engebretson) Hoffman. The family moved to Wautoma, Wisconsin where Russell attended school through his sophomore year of high school. Then the family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Russell graduated from Riverside High School in 1938. He completed an apprenticeship as a machinist during World War II.

He spent 2 years at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado and then transferred to Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR where he graduated with a Masters Degree in Fisheries and Wildlife.

His career of 30 years was spent with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service as a Refuge Manager and Biologist. He managed Wildlife Refuges in Alaska, Montana, and Idaho and was a biologist for the upper Mississippi Wildlife Refuge in Winona, Minnesota.

He retired in 1983 from Deer Flat NWR in Nampa. He married Rosemary Miller in 1955; they met in Kodiak, Alaska where he was Refuge Manager for the Kodiak Bear NWR. They have 2 sons, Rick R. and Ross E. who both live in Idaho. The sons grew up on Wildlife Refuges; it was great living as Russell taught us good conservation ideals about the waterfowl and all the birds and animals on the Refuges.

Russell was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Nampa since 1970.

Russell is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosemary; two sons, Rick and Ross; and three sisters, Florence Jones, Gold Canyon, AZ; Adeline (Robert) Luedke, Milwaukee, WI; and Loraine (Fred) Bleier, Mesa, AZ.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 8 S. Midland Blvd., Nampa, ID 83651.
