Rebecca is the oldest child of David Campbell Foster and Ellen Cline. She came on the Oregon Trail with them on the Capt. Daniel Hunt Wagon Train of 1861. Her father died en route to California. Her mother and three siblings ended up living on Capt. Hunt's ranch in Millville for a time.
Rebecca married William Hawes 20 April 1862. Rebecca was a school teacher. She convinced William to change his birth spelling of his surname from HAAS to HAWES. William and Rebecca had the following children:

John Lincoln Hawes 1863-1922
Alice Ellen Hawes 1863-1943
Mary Anis Hawes 1867-1873
Henry William Hawes 1870-1927
Granville Newton Hawes 1871-1942
Daniel Robert Hawes 1875-1958

Family lore says it was likely perotinitis after the birth of her last child, Dan Hawes that caused Rebeccas demise.

She is buried here in the HAWES plot next to her husband William Henry Hawes (Haas) and her mother and one of her babys - Mary Anis.
