Bonnie Mehaffey Roane
Union Mills - Bonnie Mehaffey Roane, 90, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at her home.
A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Fred Mehaffey and Gertrude Sellers Mehaffey and the widow of the late James Milton Roane.
She was a member of Union Mills Presbyterian Church where she served as church elder and secretary of the women of the church. She was retired from General Fireproofing. She was president of the PTA and lunch room worker at Alexander Schools, Inc., president of Union Mills Fire Department Auxiliary and vice president of Union Mills Community Club. She was a caretaker of Union Mills Club House and a member of Agilely-Union Mills Senior Club and Homemakers Club. She was a Rutherford County Rural Development Woman of the Year.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Mehaffey.
She is survived by her sons, Jim Roane of Greensboro, Fred Roane of Burlington, VT., Mike Roane of Hickory and Larry Roane of Union Mills; daughters, Linda Bostick of Dawsonville, Ga., Rita Roane of Black Mountain and Sherry Thomas of Nebo; sister, Lucy Allison of Enka; special friends and caregivers, Frankie Cochran and Joanna Johnson; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Union Mills Presbyterian Church. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
