Civil War Confederate Army Officer. Known as "Old Trib", he raised and organized the 4th Kentucky (CSA) Infantry of the famous Kentucky “Orphan” Brigade during the War Between the States. He commanded the regiment until his death, also acting as Brigade commander at the Battle of Shiloh in April 1862. He commanded his regiment in the tragic attack of the Orphan Brigade at Murfreesboro, January 2, 1863. While on a trip to Richmond shortly thereafter, he died of a sudden illness. Period sources say he was buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, but other sources say his body was moved by his wife’s family to Natchez, Mississippi. A thorough search of existing records has failed to reveal his exact gravesite. There is no record of his burial in Natchez, and the records of Hollywood Cemetery were burned at the end of the War Between the States. Searches of Hollywood Cemetery have failed to reveal a marker for Trabue. He is likely buried there, perhaps in the section for Confederate officers, but his grave is no longer marked.
