Violet R. Schenck, 93, of 1 Walnut Street, Elizabethtown, formerly of Muncy, PA, died Friday evening at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster.

Cause of death congestive heart failure / aortic stenosis

Born in Muncy, PA, she was the daughter of the late Parris Dale and Dora Emily Murray Snyder. She was the wife of the late Edward Lester Schenck who died in 1980.

Mrs. Schenck was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown. Prior to relocating to Elizabethtown in 1994, she was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Muncy. Mrs. Schenck was a remarkable women. Having lived through the Great Depression, she learned to make due with what she had. She was accomplished at the homemaking skills of cooking, baking, sewing, canning, gardening, quilting, and rug making. She often made clothing for her children, including making wedding dresses for her daughters. In her earlier years, she was a Girl Scout leader, president of Band Parents and was active with parent groups in the school.

She had been employed by the former Montgomery Mills in Montgomery, PA. Mrs. Schenck was faithful in corresponding with friends by letter. She enjoyed watching wildlife.

She was preceded in death by a son, Frederick Schenck; two daughters, Margaret Schenck Poust and Dora Schenck Adams; a sister, Jennet Snyder and a brother, Robert Snyder.

She is survived by three daughters, Edna Mae Potteiger of Norwood, PA, Catherine (Michael) Myers, of Elizabethtown and Marcia Noles, fiance of Art Rich of Mechanicsburg, PA; a son, Dale (Janet) Schenck of Owings, MD; 14 grandchildren, Susan Potteiger, David Schenck, Earl Schenck, Brett Schenck, Beth Schenck, Margo Schenck, Pam Kelter, Debbie Adams, Kim Torres, Gail Poust, Brian Schenck, Rebecca Schenck, Edith Myers and Benjamin (Debbie) Schenck and 11 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 398 North Locust Street, Elizabethtown, PA with Pastor John B. Davis, II and Pastor Suzanne Duchesne officiating. Interment will be in Muncy Cemetery, Muncy, PA on Thursday at 11:00 AM.
Friends may call at the church on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603 or St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 398 North Locust Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 or Organization for the Responsible Care of Animals.
