Carl J. Hoffman, age 80, of Pinckneyville, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at 11:17 p.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Skilled Care Unit.

Mr. Hoffman was born on April 15, 1924 in Pinckneyville, a son of Joseph H. and Theresa A. (Flure) Hoffman. He was united in marriage to Onita H. Mayer (Gladson) on November 5, 1971 and she preceded him in death on August 29, 1996. Mr. Hoffman owned and operated a liquor store in Pinckneyville and worked as a custodian at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Pinckneyville. he also worked for the My-T-Fine Pudding Plant and painted. Mr. Hoffman served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of the St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville, the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include grandchildren, Diana Vaughn and special friend Gary Vaughn, Barbie Vaughn, Caroline Jarrett and Jonathon and Paul Jones; great-grandchildren, Chynna Vaughn, Alec and Austin Vaughn, Staci and Christen Puckett and Chad, A.J. and Lexie Jones; one great-great-grandchild, Dashon Monroe; one step-daughter, Joan Gladson and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Ella Bathon; one infant brother and one nephew, Carl Bathon.

Interment for Mr. Hoffman was in the St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery in Pinckneyville.
