He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Marine Corps for eight years. His marriage was to Pauline M. Fulton on Sept. 24, 1960, in Terre Haute. She preceded him in death on Feb. 11, 2003.
Mr. Trout was the president/owner of Twin City Dodge Inc. in Lafayette since 1974. He was a member of the John Purdue Club and an avid Indiana University fan. He was a member of the American Legion Post 11, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1154 and the 40 & 8 Club. He was also a member of the Indiana Softball Hall of Fame as a sponsor.
Surviving are three daughters, Donna Yater and husband Tom, and Andrea Barrett and husband John, all of Lafayette, and Cheryl Gwartney of Mission Viejo, Calif.; two sisters, Rosemary Gryzbowski and husband Daniel of Dyer and Jean Ann Hampson and husband David of Knoxville, Tenn.; a foster sister, Doris Hackl of West Terre Haute; a foster brother, Dick Joy of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Nate Barrett and wife Brandy, Raleigh Barrett, Jonathan Pedone, Zachary Yater, Tucker Yater, Lily Yater, Bailey Gwartney and Frankie Paige Gwartney; and one great-grandson, Noah Barrett. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Trout; two sisters; and four brothers.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd.
Graveside service 10 a.m. Thursday at Rest Haven Memorial Park, with the Rev. David Henderson officiating. Memorial services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Covenant Presbyterian Church, West Lafayette. Memorials to Young Men's Educational Network, PO Box 23410, Chicago, IL 60623.

He is the brother of Major League Baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers and 1945 MLB World Series Champion Paul Howard "Dizzy" Trout.
