Son of William 'Thomas' and Lucretia (Treadwell) Rogers. Moved from north Georgia to Lowndes Co. GA in the 1820's. Married Sarah Adams 19 Nov 1837 in Lowndes Co., GA. They had 7 children before she died on 7 May 1851. He married second Elizabeth Harrell 5 June 1853. They had 10 children.
He purchased the Ocapilco Academy (about 6 miles north of Quitman) and converted it to a home.
It is not known exactly where he and both his wives are buried. However, since he owned the land on which this family graveyard is located and it has remained in the family ever since, it must be assumed that he and his second wife are buried here even though there is no marker.
Of his 5 sons born to his first wife, 3 were killed in the War: William Lacy Rogers died 19 Mar 1862 in Tazewell, VA; Uriah J. Rogers died 19 Oct 1864 at Cedar Creek battle in Virginia; and Mitchell A Rogers also died 19 Oct 1864 at Cedar Creek battle in Virginia
