Mr. Harold Rusher Schilling, 90, formerly of Myersville, Md., died Friday, December 3, 2010 at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy, Md. He was the husband of Dorothy Sell Schilling who died August 31, 1999. Born in Huntington, Indiana, February 23, 1920, he was a son of the late Jacob Howard and Nova Rusher Schilling. Mr. Schilling was a store manager at JC Penney in Frederick from 1965 until his retirement in 1978. He also served with JC Penney's Corp. in 13 locations and 6 states prior to moving to Frederick. He was active in many non-profits and civic organizations during his working career; was a devoted member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Middletown and over the years had served on many boards of the church. He also travelled to Honduras with the the church when he was 80 years old. He was an army veteran of WWII serving in the European theatre in the Rhineland campaign attaining the rank of Sargent. He is survived by two children, Lou Ann Lushbaugh and husband Lee of Frederick, and Donald R. Schilling and wife, Phyllis of Hagerstown, Md.; five grandchildren, John Schilling and wife Noelle, Lindsay Bagley and husband Clinton, Katherine Schilling, Lisa Wagoner and husband Matt, Kara Lushbaugh; three great-grandchildren, Kendall Bagley, Harper Schilling, Luke Wagoner; three brothers, Arden Schilling and wife Jeanette of Huntington, Ind., Paul Schilling and wife Jean - Oswego, Ill., and Jacob Howard Schilling Jr. and wife Donna - Huntington, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Dill of Galion, Ohio. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Hugh Schilling and wife Mary and Arlo Schilling and wife Gloria. The family will receive friends on Monday at the chapel in Christ Reformed Church, 12 S. Church St., Middletown, Md., from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday from the church. Rev. Mark A. Wakefield will officiate. Interment will be made in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Reformed Church, POB 333, Middletown, MD 21769. Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, Middletown, Md., is in charge of arrangements.
