Dr. Charles J. Kirshman, 36, 37 Briar Rd., Westwood, was killed, Mrs. Kirshman was seriously injured and their two daughters, Betty, 6, and Janet, 4, received minor injuries about 1 p.m. Sunday near Wabasha, Minn., when the automobile in which the family was riding crashed into another car. A blow-out in one of the front tires of Dr. Kirshman's auto caused the machine to swerve suddenly into the other car which was coming from the opposite direction.
Prior to the accident, Dr. Kirshman and his family were visiting in Rochester where he was attending the Mayo Clinic. They left Muncie about two weeks ago for a motor trip through northern Michigan and Canada. Dr. Kirshman was identified following the crash by a Masonics Lodge card in his bill-fold.
Surviving in addition to the immediate family are the father and brother, both of Chicago, a sister in Anderson, Ind., and another brother, a physician in Momence, Ill.
Services will be at 10 a.m. in High Street Church with Rev. Claud King officiating. Burial wiil follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Dro Dirshman practiced in Albany for two years following his graduation from the medical school at Indiana University and came to Muncie as an associate of Dr. Frank G. Jackson, 214 East Adams St. From there he changed his office to the Western Reserve building and about two years ago moved to the present location, 211 South High St.
Dr. Kirshman was born in Michigan in 1892 and was graduated from the Anderson High School prior to taking up the study of medicine and surgery in the Indiana University medical division. In 1919 he married Miss Mary Reeves of Anderson. His practice in Muncie included general medicine and surgery. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Delaware-Blackford Medical Society, the Muncie Academy of Medicine and held a commission as a second lieutenant in the army medical corps, O.R.C. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of this city, Nu Sigma Nu, honorary college medical fraternity, and the Alpha Tau Omega literary fraternity.
