Margaret Erichsen, age 99, of Clear Lake, SD died Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral service will be 2:30 pm on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, SD. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Clear Lake. Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements.

Margaret Clara (Ashbaugh) Erichsen was born to George and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Ashbaugh on December 5, 1913 in Killarney, Manitoba, Canada. In 1914, her family moved to Ocheydan, Iowa, where the family farmed. Two years later, they moved to rural Clear Lake, SD where she was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. Margaret attended school in Clear Lake graduating in 1931. She continued her education at Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen where she received a teaching degree. She taught in rural schools in Deuel County for five years.

On June 5, 1935, she married Louis Walter Erichsen. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm north of Altamont. To this union, eight children were born. She joined St. John's Lutheran Church in Altamont where she taught Sunday school and served as Sunday school superintendant. Margaret also taught two years at rural Clover Hill School District #72.

After the death of her husband Louis in 1969, she moved to Clear Lake. She again joined Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, where she also taught Sunday school and was an active member of the Ladies Aid. She worked as a teacher's aide and substitute teacher in the Clear Lake school system for 13 years.

Margaret entered the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake in 2002, where she remained until she passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the age of 99 years, 2 months and 8 days.

She was a member of Clear Lake Extension Club, Altamont Senior Citizens, Clear Lake Senior Citizens and several card clubs. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing and altering clothes. Margaret also enjoyed spending time in her flower garden.

She is survived by her eight children: Lowell (M. Joan) Erichsen, Joyce Ulven, Vivian (Arthur Keith) Shaver, Bernice (Dean) Kjelden and LaVonne Kjelden, all of Sioux Falls, SD, Linda (Harold) Berkland, Brookings, SD, June McKillip, Sioux Falls, SD and Wayne Erichsen, Tempe, AZ; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband; infant granddaughter Jill Christina Hintz; brothers: Leonard, George and Louis Ashbaugh and sisters: Myrtle Ashbaugh and Marian Gunsalus.
