Mrs. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County the daughter of the late James William McAfee and the late Susan Cornelia Rainwater McAfee. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church near Davisboro. Her hobby was writing poetry which she loved to share, calling it her "Mailbox Ministry". Mrs. Smith is predeceased by her husband Hugh Wilson Smith.
Survivors include: two daughters Carole (Vick) Felbob of Sandersville, and Dianne (Dr. Alan) Olansky of Atlanta and her son David Hugh (Jennifer) Smith of Wrens; six grandchildren, Cindy (Matt) Sheram of Deepstep, Susan (Rev. Melton) Tyson of North Carolina, Anna Raye (Johnathon) Templeman and Adam Olansky both of Atlanta, Eric Smith and Steffen (Sheena) Smith both of Sandersville; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Grace Tyson, Rachel Elizabeth Tyson, Mackenzie Nicole Sheram, Madison Brooke Sheram and Chloe Larimore; three step-grandchildren, Leslie Lynam, Lauren L. (Chris) Stewart and Thomas Lynam all of Wrens and many nieces and nephews.
