A visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Prineville Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held on Dec. 6, at 2 p.m., followed by internment at Juniper Haven Cemetery. Pastor Ron Hemphill of New Life Bible Chapel officiated.
"LaVerne" was born in Klamath Falls, Ore. on Aug. 12, 1943 to William & Lorena (Powell) Martin.
She grew up in Northern California, Yreka, Montague area. LaVerne attended and graduated from Montague High School, in Montague, Calif. She lived in Malin, Ore., when she met and married Garner Ray Heggie on Oct. 4, 1959. They lived in the Malin & Klamath Falls, Ore., area until they moved to Prineville in 1972.
LaVerne worked at Pioneer Memorial Hospital and at Ochoco Care Center as a dietary aide.
She loved writing music, playing guitar, and Christian music and she wrote songs for her grandchildren. LaVerne loved shopping for fabric, and made lots of crafts, dolls, and floral arrangements. She loved reading her Bible and her favorite Bible character was Paul. Her greatest love was of Jesus Christ and she always strived to please Him. Even during her illness she got on her knees and prayed every day. She was a member of the New Life Bible Chapel in Prineville.
LaVerne is survived by her husband, Garner Heggie of Prineville; sons, Jim Heggie of Sacramento, Calif., Joel Heggie of Prineville, Larry & his wife Shannon Heggie of Prineville, and Gary Heggie of Klamath Falls, Ore.; daughters, Tonya and her husband Dale Collins of Prineville, Yellonda and her husband David Beaty of Redmond, and Renee & her husband Todd Forrester of Prineville; brothers, Bill Martin of Roseburg, Ore., and David Martin of Prineville; sister, Evelyn Wilson of Redding, Calif.; 22 grand children and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter; Carrie Heggie (1964).
