He then returned to his home at Batesville, but remained only a short time, coming to Melbourne the same year. Here he began the practice of his profession and was a faithful servant of humanity until his death.
Dr. Baxter served as health officer of Izard County for several years, and was also coroner for two years. He had a pleasant social disposition that won for him many friends. Kind and obliging, open-hearted and free-handed, he was ever found at the bedside of the sick and helpless. He took no active part in politics and voted always as a matter of duty for what he thought the best interest of his county. He was a Republican, though he voted with the Democratic party often in state and county elections.
Dr. Baxter keep abreast the latest developments in medical science by constant study, and was highly respected in the profession. He died September 12, 1941.
