Obituary;
Theodore Prentice
Civil War veteran and retired letter carrier, died last Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elwood Keith, 22 Birch Road.
He was born in Hartford Conn., and entered the Army Medical Corp as a male nurse. He was a letter carrier for 40 years and retired eight years ago.
for 35 years he delivered mail at Harvard University and was known to thousands of Harvard men. His popularity with the Harvard men resulted in his being selected as an honorary member of several college societies and fraternities. The five years prior to his retirement, he delivered mail in Belmont. Funeral services were held at his home, Sunday at 230 o'clock.

As noted in his obituary, Theodore was popular with the students of Harvard during the late 1800's into the early 1900's. There is an article published in "The Harvard Illustrated Magazine" titled "Billy the Postman" Published by students of Harvard, November 1900, which relates his personal history & family life and has several pictures of him during his employment with the post office. There is also an article about him from the New York Times, dated October 21, 1906 titled "Billy the Postman" Quits Harvard After Thirty-Two Years."
He worked out of the office on Brattle Street in Cambridge, the same office my Dad worked out of later.
Theodore was my Great Grand-Uncle. I would have loved to have been able to sit down with him and listen to his stories.
