Services for Maurine Garrett Talbert, 77 of Oakleaf, formerly of China Spring were 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in China Spring. The Rev. Steve Hudson and the Rev. Jim Gray officiated. Burial was at China Spring Cemetery.
Mrs. Talbert died Thursday in Oakleaf. She was born June 29, 1916 in Patrick. She graduated from China Spring High School and married John J. (Jake) Talbert on Dec. 24, 1934, in Waco. She and her husband lived in China Spring until 1962 when they moved to Macon, Mississippi. She was active in many organizations including the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and First Baptist Church in Macon, Mississippi. She also established the Ageless Wonders Senior Adult Organization, where she served as Director and was active for seven years. She and her husband ran a dairy business. They moved back to Texas on March 31, 1993.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Paula Mars of Oak Leaf; son, John Talbert III of Josephine; sister, Marietta Markin of Waco; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
