Solomon Jacob (went by Jacob) Rothrock was the youngest of nine known children of Christian Rothrock (1790-1870) and Maria Catharina Boeckel Rothrock (1794-1863), who married 27 Feb 1817 at Friedberg, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Jacob and Maria spent their entire lives in the vicinity of the Moravian community of Friedberg, then on the border of Stokes and Rowan (now Forsyth and Davidson) Counties, North Carolina.

Jacob, a blacksmith, married Mary Ann Pope (1835-1870) on 24 Apr 1855 at Forsyth County, North Carolina. By 1860 Jacob and Mary, along with their first two children, were living at chester, Chester County, South Carolina nearby to Jacob's elder brother, Benjamin David Rothrock, also a blacksmith. It is thought that Benjamin moved to South Carolina in c1847 and that Jacob followed him there.

Jacob and Mary were the parents of three known children, two boys and a girl, namely:

1. Charles Noah Rothrock (1857-1921)
2. David Samuel Rothrock (1859-1924)
3. Mary D. Rothrock (c1862-???)

Nothing is known of what happened to the daughter, Mary.

Jacob enlisted in the Confederate Army as a Calvaryman in April 1864 at Columbus, South Carolina. Jacob died of yellow fever in a hospital at Charleston, South Carolina. In 1870 the widow Mary was living at Broadbay Township, Forsyth County, North Carolina. Mary died 02 aug 1870 at Hopewell church, Forsyth County, North Carolina. It is not known where she is buried.
