Freemont Hunter Ayres, 91, of Lexington, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010.

He was born Dec. 17, 1918, a son of the late James Edgar Ayres and Minnie Mutispaugh Ayres. He was retired from BARC Electric Cooperative. He was a lifelong resident of the Kerrs Creek area and a member of the Lexington Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Virginia Conner Ayres.

He is survived by two sons, Clifford T. "Terry" Ayers of Rocky Mount and Hunter E. "Chipper" Ayres of Lexington; two brothers, James H. Ayers and B.B. Ayers of Lexington; a sister, Juanita Bartley of Covington; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the Lexington Baptist Church, by Pastor Michael Wilburn. Burial followed in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory handled the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lexington Baptist Church Building Fund.
