Jewell was born October 23, 1926 in Pittsburg KS., the daughter of Walter and Della (Shaw) Pennington.
On January 1, 1953 she married James L. Alcorn. He preceded her in death in August of 1993.
She attended Kansas State Teachers College where she earned a bachelors degree in teaching. Jewell taught at Liberal MO. School #R2 as a first grade teacher for 22 years, retiring in 1988. She had previously worked at South Western Bell Telephone Company as an operator for 8 years during the late 40's, early 50's.
Jewell was a member of the First Christian Church in Nashville, MO., a member of the Retired Teachers of Missouri Association, and a member of AARP #646.
Survivors include 2 Daughters, Deborah Folk of Basehor, KS., and Barbara Kermashek and husband Frank, of Girard, KS., 2 sons, Mike Alcorn of Pittsburg KS., and Bob Alcorn and Wife Ellen of Osawatomie, Ks. 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 sister, Billie Douglas of Holts Summit, MO.,
She was preceded in death by her husband James, parents, and 1 sister, Dorris Pennington.
Graveside service will be 1p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Nashville Cemetery, in Nashville, MO., with Reverend Bud Clapp officiating. Public viewing will be from 9 AM until Service time Tuesday.
