GASTONIA - Howard Matthew Self, 79, died Nov. 26, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Self was born July 20, 1931 in Jacksonville, Fla. to the late Lester and Minnie Pangle Self.
Howard was a textile worker, loved gardening and was an avid golfer, winning numerous golf tournaments throughout his life.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Naomi Self; granddaughter, Megan; five brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include his children, Brenda McBrayer and husband John of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Howard Self and wife Diane of Gastonia, Debra Herms of Gastonia, Ricky Self and wife Patricia of Gastonia, Tammy Langley and husband George of Dallas, Sandra Sexton of Stanley, David Self of Bessemer City, Mark Aland of Gastonia, Karen Self and Hillary Self, both of Gastonia; brother, James Self of Gastonia; and a sister, Lucille Webb of Baltimore, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, 1326 Cedar Ave, Gastonia with Rev. Terry Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.
