Julius "Shorty" William Hamburg, 89, a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and a resident of Foley, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010 at his residence. He was a World War II veteran. He was owner for 55 years of H.M. Hamburg & Sons along with his dad, Henry Martin Hamburg, his son, Don and nephew, Floyd. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Tanner Hamburg; two sons, William (Bill) Hamburg and Johnny Hamburg; two brothers, Ambrose Hamburg and Clarence Hamburg. Survivors include his wife, Marie Nelson Hamburg of Foley; son, Don (Susan) Hamburg of Niceville, Fla.; daughter, Helen (Glen) Hamburg Williams of Flowood, Miss.; two step-sons, Andy (Pennie) Nelson and Scott Nelson, all of La Mirada, Calif.; step-daughter, Kerri (Gary) Anenberg of Simi Valley, Calif.; six grandchildren, Wayne Williams, Angie Williams, H. Martin Hamburg II, Tiffany Hamburg, Ken Hamburg, and J.C. Hamburg; five step-grandchildren, Christina Nelson, Jessica Nelson, Erica Nelson, Cindy Terry and Hailey Anenberg; six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3 at First Presbyterian Church, Foley. The family requests memorial donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Foley Prayer Garden. Arrangements are by Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., Foley.
