Artye, age 95, was born in Belvedere, Tennessee, the daughter of Nicholes S. and Nancy (Osborne) Anthony. She had lived in Hanford since 1906. She was married to Joseph Vickers. In addition to rearing a family of eight children, she worked for many years as a practical nurse, retiring in 1960. She was a graduate of Tennessee Teachers College, a member of First United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, Neighbors of Woodcraft and the Womens Relief Corps.
