Raymond C. "Ray" Boyd, 89, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Madison, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at Royal Care of Avon Park, Avon Park, Fla.

He was born Jan. 28, 1921, in Breeden, Mich., the son of John and Ettie Berkley Boyd. He was raised in Reading, Mich., and was a graduate of Reading High School. He was a 1940 graduate of Tri State College in Angola. He served in the Army from Feb. 16, 1941, to Feb. 26, 1944. He was a retired employee of Essex Wire as an engineer. He also worked 15 years as a construction engineer. He was a member of North Madison Baptist Church and enjoyed playing the organ there. He was proud to have built his own airplane and enjoyed flying. He also was proud of the home he built in Madison and enjoyed singing with "Fern and the Gang."

He is survived by three daughters, Trenna Haake of Sebring, Fla., Sheila Munoz of Lakeland, Fla., and Janice Boswell of Lake Wales, Fla.; one son, John Boyd of Florida; one brother, Kenneth "Skip" Boyd of Reading, Mich.; one sister, Evelyn Boyd Price of Reading, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys D. Garrett Lichlyter Boyd, whom he married May 27, 1984, and who died Aug. 9, 2009; his parents; five brothers, Harold, Donald, Dwayne, Thurman and Lawrence Boyd; and one sister, Helen Warner.

A graveside service and burial was at Springdale Cemetery. Military honors were conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.
