She was born March 26, 1912, in St. John, Kan., the daughter of Ray E. and Pearl Ward Cotton.
Arlene graduated from St. John High School and Salt City Business College. She retired from Crossroads Bookstore after 18 years. Arlene was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Church Circle 1.
On Sept. 6, 1932, she married George Harney in Lyons, Kan. He died May 27, 1969.
Survivors include: two daughters, GeorgeAnn Flickinger and husband Ted of Hutchinson, Linda Bybee and husband Darrel of New Berlin, Wis.; three grandchildren, Sherry McCain and husband Kim of Seibert, Colo., Brenda Meagher and husband Gary of Hutchinson, Greg Bybee of San Francisco, Calif.; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Luke McCain, and four sisters.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Conard presiding. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with family to receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
