The community will be shocked to learn of the death of Prof. John G. Laird, of Stockwell, which occurred at 3 p.m. Sunday, after a short illness of three days. Deceased was about 60 years of age. He had lived in Tippecanoe county nearly forty years. He was for many years teacher of the Stockwell Institute, and was also postmaster at the time of his death, which position he filled about ten years. A wife and two sons, William and Andrew are left to mourn his loss. Deceased was an honorable, upright, Christian gentleman, beloved by all who knew him. His death will cause a void in the community of which he formed a part, which will be hard to fill. The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday , at Stockwell, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, Rev. F. Mikels officiation. (Lafayette Daily Courier, Tuesday November 11, 1884.)
