Jathon R. Bellamy, 84, of 1211 Winchester Road, Waynesboro, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday (June 12, 2005) at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville.

He was born April 16, 1921, in Conway, S.C., a son of the late Jefferson and Gussie (Hickman) Bellamy.

He was a veteran of World War II. Upon relocation to Waynesboro, Jathon retired from Baugher Chevrolet and Diehl Motors as a reconditioning engineer in 1976.

Jathon was a member of Union Baptist Church of Waynesboro, where he was appointed as Chairman Emeritus of the Union Baptist Church Deacon Board. He also served on the Deacon Board, Board of Trustees, Men's Choir and other church auxiliaries. He was a member of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Virginia, Free and Accepted Masons, Inc. Mount Zion Lodge No. 18, where he served as chaplain.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Benjamin Bellamy; one brother, Ulyese Bellamy; and one sister, Gethalee Floyd.

Jathon is survived by his loving wife, Augustine (Howard) Bellamy; five sons, Jathon Jr. (Cynthia), Jeff (Tamaqua), James, Engram, and eldest son, the Rev. James Odell Brantley; four daughters, Janitha, Gussie, Lawren (Rayford), and Nedaro; one sister, Estella Weaver; and one adopted brother, Herman Hickman (Thomasena). He leaves behind a generation of 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday (June 18, 2005) at Union Baptist Church, 820 East Main St., Waynesboro, Va., by the Rev. Dr. Donald Winston Johnson. Burial will be in the Augusta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be members of Mount Zion Lodge No. 18.

Viewing will be Friday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at McCutcheon's Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
