The Defenbaugh Funeral home traces its history
back 131 years in Pickaway County.
Peter Defenbaugh coffin maker and cabinet maker
in addition to his funeral directing business in the
village of Tarlton until 1865. His operation started in 1840.
The funeral home business continued with Stephen
Defenbaugh, also an undertaker and coffin maker, in 1865
at the Tartlon location. A short time following 1900
Stephen and Harley Defenbaugh father and son operated
under the partnership of S.Defenbaugh and Son.
In 1940 the business was moved to Circleville at its present
location in the firm at that time were William, Mary and Harold
Defenbaugh. Mary died in 1943

The Defenbaugh Funeral Home it was started by Peter the article said that the business was started abt 1840 by Peter and by the close of the Civil War he was succeed by his son Stephen who was later succeeded by the third
generation Harley In 1940 he was succeeded by his
sons William and Harold and his daughter
Mary who died in 1943.
