Violet Panitzke was born July 13, 1914, to Peter and Elva (Rosenkranz) Sorensen in West Point, NE. Violet loved to tell stories of her life in the early 1900's. She remembered her family moving to Minnesota when she was 5 years old. They traveled by train, and horse and wagon. Violet's family farmed near Evan, MN and she and her four sisters and two brothers attended school in Sleepy Eye. Growing up on a farm instilled a love of nature in Violet. She also told about dancing the "Charleston" during the Roaring '20's, "making do" during the Depression, and birthing her babies at home. Even though life was difficult at times she was always positive, creative and energetic. Violet's greatest love was being a mother, homemaker, and grandmother. She also worked at several jobs including driving a mail truck in the '40's. Violet met her husband Reinhard on an outing to Morgan. They were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls in 1933, and were blessed with 6 children- Gordon, Ronald, Virgil, Marjorie, Jerry and Dorothy. Violet and Reinhard raised their family in Redwood Falls and later in Sanborn. Violet's children and grandchildren have countless memories of playing games, doing art projects, reading books and decorating the Christmas tree with her. They could always count on good times and good food when in her home. Even at 80 years old she could be found sitting on the floor playing with her grandkids. Violet lived a good, long life and never stopped giving hugs and smiles to those around her. Her loving, nurturing spirit will live on in the memories of all the lives she has touched.
She is survived by children- Virgil (Melva) Panitzke of Aitkin, MN, Marjorie (Jerry) Wellner of Lamberton, Jerry (Julie) Panitzke of Springfield, and Dorothy (Glen) Reiner of Miltona, MN; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and daughters-in-law- Mae Panitzke of Sanborn, and Judy Schultz of Walnut Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Reinhard; sons- Ronald and Gordon; and sisters- Winifred Doberstein, Mary Dietz, Gladys Kirschstein, and Gertrude Kirschstein.
