Samuel Willard was born at Lancaster, May 31, 1690, eldest son of Henry Willard (1655-1701) and Dorcas Cutler. He married August 19, 1717, Elizabeth, daughter of Edward and Ruth Phelps, who was born January 27, 1689-1690. He bought his grandfather Willard's lands in Lancaster and settled on them; was a trader and large landholder; representative; judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Worcester County; colonel of a regiment at the reduction of Louisburg in 1745. He died at Lancaster in November, 1752. She died September 28, 1770. Children:

(1) Samuel, born Nov. 12, 1718; married Susanna Wilder; settled at Petersham. He had command of a force of 800 men for the reinforcement of the army at Lake George in 1755. Died of illness October 25, 1755. No children.
(2) Abijah, born July 8, 1720; died Oct. 3, 1722.
(3) Nahum, born May 28, 1722; married Elizabeth Townsend; was a physician at Worcester.
(4) Abijah, born July 27, 1724; married 1st to Elizabeth Prescott, 2nd to Anna Prentice, and 3rd to Mrs. Mary McKown. Settled in New Brunswick and died in May, 1789.
(5) Levi, born Apr. 19, 1727; married Katherine Chandler.
(6) Joshua, born Jan. 24, 1729-30; married Lucretia Ward; was a physician at Petersham.
(7) Abel, born Jan. 12, 1731-32; graduated at Harvard College; married Elizabeth Rogers. On the breaking out of the Revolution he threw in his lot with the Royalist party. Went to England in 1776 and died there November 19, 1781.
