"Masons Pay Honors to Brother's Memory
The funeral of E. Dodd was held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in charge of Rev. Clyde W. Odom and a large number of friends and neighbors were in attendance to pay their tribute of respect to his memory. Mr. Odom made a splendid funeral address, and the male quartet sang several appropriate selections. The burial was in Graceland cemetery with the services at the grave in charge of Burlington Lodge No. 66 A. F. & A. M. with W.J. Armstrong acting as master. The impressive burial services of the Masons was given by Mr. Armstrong, assisted by the lodge. He is survived by seven grandchildren and two brothers. One aged brother, Samuel Dodd, of Ottawa, Kas., was present at the funeral. The other, L.C. Dodd of Monte Valley, Mo., could not come. Mr. Dodd was a resident of Coffey county for many years and was very high esteemed by his neighbors and acquaintances. Ennis Dodd was born in Hendricks county, Indiana, December 27, 1837, and died November 13, 1919 at his home on West Neosho street, in Burlington, Kansas, after an illness of seven long weeks. On December 9, 1862 he enlisted in Company I, 27th Regiment of Missouri volunteers, serving three years. Mr. Dodd became a member of the Masonic order in 1877 and placed his religious faith in these obligations for 42 years. He was married to Miss Mary E. Brocaw, September 16, 1869, and celebrated their 50th anniversary eight days before he was stricken. To this union five children were born; four daughters and one son. Those living to mourn his loss are his aged wife; his daughter, Mrs. G. E. Brocaw, of Harrisonville, Mo., Mrs. J. E. Whitehead of this county, Mrs. Carl Webber of Sawyer, Kansas, and his son Frank who resides on the farm. One daughter Stella L. Beard, died February 11, 1917.
