Third daughter of James Madison and Sarah Emily "Sallie" Shannon Swain of Wilson Co., TN, "Jennie" married Robert Baxter Cotton on June 3, 1863, in Wilson County. Cotton was a member of the 8th Texas Cavalry (Terry's Texas Rangers) at the time. The couple moved from Murfreesboro, TN, to Temple, TX, in the late 1870s, where he died in 1883. Jennie moved to Dallas about 1909 to live near her daughter Beulah. The dates on her gravestone do not quite match those on her death certificate (dates used here).
