The Normangee Star Friday December 1, 1944 Vol. XXXII # 45 Called to His Eternal Home Lee Gilbert was born April 9, 1892, at Normangee, Texas, and passed away at 8:00 p.m. November 10, 1944, at the age of 52 years in a hospital at Houston, Texas, after an illness of seven weeks. Up until six years ago he was a resident of Normangee. Since that time he has been connected with the Texas Prison System and he has made his home in Huntsville for the past two years with Mrs. Gilbert.
On January 31, 1915, he was married to Effie Gustavus. To this union wsa born four children: Mrs. Carl E. Orr of Bryan; Cpl. Olen Gilbert, United States Army Air Corps, San Antonio, and Pfc. Ray C. Gilbert United States Air Corp, Dodge City, Kansas. He is also survived by his aged mother, Mrs. P. L. Gilbert of Normangee, and three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church at 3:30, November 11, Rev. C. E. Bullock offficiating. Interment in Hopewell cemetery. Davis Cozart in charge of funeral arrangements.
Pallbearers: A. C. Skains, J. T. Parker, R. B. Covington, W. H. Gustavus, W. J. Mathis and J. N. Brown.
