William P., or Bill Schrock, a husky and hearty 76 years old, is Inspection Department's bid for the oldest employee. He's been very active all of his life, and that's why, he says, he's young for an "old bird." A toolmaker by trade, but nationally known as a safe and lock expert, Mr. Schrock came to Curtiss in August of 1942. Now he's an inspector in Machine Shop, and during the war made close checks on landing gear and hydraulic systems in Experimental. His locksmith knowledge has come in handy here at the plant. After starting out in life as a toolmaker, some years after he was born at Massillon, Ohio, he has became a safe and lock authority, "one of the best in the country," he admits. For 23 years he traveled with bank vault and safe companies, and has opened them all over the United States. He invented the jail lock on the Mansfield reformatory.
Always versatile, he eventually found himself in the oil business, after dabbling in stocks and bonds for a few years. He was with the county engineers for about four years.
Massillon was the Schrock home for 26 years, and he was married there in 1896. He and his family came to Columbus in 1901. Had Mrs. Schrock lived, they would have been married 50 years on June 30, 1946, but she died a few months before that. Mr. Schrock has six living children, 13 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. As he says, he doesn't have a family but a neighborhood. One of his sons is in the interior decorating business here in Columbus, and another an optometrist in California. He has two daughters in Columbus, and one in Washington Court House.
Born on May 20, 1871, Mr. Schrock passed his 76th spring this year, and he could put many a man half his age to shame with his agility and variety of interests. He enjoys deer hunting most of all, and likes to see a good baseball game. At one time he was an expert roller skater and bicyclist. For 12 years he was active as a Boy Scout Troop leader and organizer, also giving much time as a deacon and trustee in the Presbyterian Church. His bright philosophy of life seems to have served him well. He lives by the Golden Rule, and has an interesting life following its simple, practical plan.

William and Bertha had the following children:
Catherine Elizabeth Schrock
Frances Louise Schrock
Robert William Schrock
Leonard Eugene Schrock
Alice Estelle Schrock
Anna Belle Schrock
Julia Margaret Schrock
John Frederick Schrock

William's second wife was Clara N. (Herron) Brower.
