Served with Co.C 3rd Missouri Cavalry CSC During the war of Southern Independence of 1861-65 (AKA The Civil War)
After the war James went back into the Banking business with his family in Riverton MO. In the 1890s he became a Leader in the United Confederate Veterans and was instrumental in getting the funds for the Confederate Veterans Home in Higginsville MO. He was made a Trustee of the home in 1900. He died in a hunting accident on Sept. 10 1909 at age 66. The attached photo of James (Center) and the other Trustees in their UCV Uniforms was taken in 1900 and is from the Homes records. The Photos of his grave and the cemetery were taken in Sept. 2001
