Roy Laverne Fisher passed away at 6:40 p.m. CST Nov. 26, 2010, at Logan Healthcare in Danville.

Roy was born in Kingman, Ind., on March 2, 1921, to Iola "Oveta" Clore Fisher and John "Johnnie" Hartman Fisher. As a young man Roy worked at the Kingman IGA, on local farms with his father, and at Harrison Steel in Attica, Ind. Roy worked as a guard at the Central Foundry plant in Tilton, Ill., for several years, and as a lift operator at Neff Concrete in Danville. Roy retired as an inspector after 26 years from Bohn Aluminum and Brass Co. in 1983.

Roy graduated from Kingman High School in 1939. During high school Roy played basketball as a first-string player, with four senior team members. The team won the 1936 sectional title for Kingman High School. He was elected class president for three years. For more than 50 years, Roy would never miss attending his annual KHS alumni banquet. Roy enjoyed playing baseball and tennis in his 20s. He enjoyed playing the game of horse shoes, and playing a game of catch with his daughter and grandchildren.

Roy was a 50-year member of the Danville YMCA. He was an excellent handball player and won several competitions at the YMCA. During his retirement years he enjoyed swimming daily at the YMCA. From an early age, Roy developed a love of hiking the trails of Turkey Run State Park, and he encouraged his daughter and grandchildren to enjoy the great outdoors, too. Roy enjoyed big band music and dancing.

Roy met his wife of 59 years at a dance in Cayuga, Ind. Roy and Mary Nina Fultz were married at the Old Capitol Building in Springfield, Ill. After retiring, Roy enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved reading to his grandchildren and taking them on walks and adventures. Roy had a good sense of humor and he enjoyed a good joke. Roy was a redhead, but he was bald by the time he was 30 years old. He liked to tell folks that he gave his red hair to his daughter. Roy enjoyed playing euchre and the game of Aggravation with his family. Roy was devoted to his wife Nina, who passed away three weeks prior to his death.

Roy was a member of the Kingman Christian Church, and the Second Church of Christ in Danville. Roy was a 63-year member of the Kingman Lodge No. 314. He is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sisters, Grace Garrison and Pauline Mauk.
