Death of Mrs. ROTH.

On Thursday last, at her home south of this city, occurred the death of Mrs Mary ROTH, wife of Joseph ROTH, an old and well known citizen of this county. She had suffered for some time from cancer of the stomach, and while a fatal result was not unexpected her death came very suddenly upon the family --- The maiden name of the deceased was Mary KLOPFENSTEIN, and she was born in Bourogne, France, September 24th, 1823. When quite young her father died, and the mother and daughter shortly afterward came to the United States. In 1840 she was married to Joseph ROTH, in Wayne county, Ohio, and three years later they removed to this state, locating on the farm where Mrs. ROTH died and where the family has lived for nearly 50 years. To Mr. and Mrs. ROTH 13 children were born, nine of whom are now living -- Peter H., Mrs Rebecca MESSER, John, Christian, Mary, Mrs Annie LAMSON, Jacob, Edward and Benjamin, all of whom reside in this county but one son, Edward -- Two brothers of the deceased are also living in this state. Peter in Lee county and Nicholas in Washington. Christian, Jacob and Joseph GRABER are also half brothers, and a half sister, Mrs. Katherine DONALD, lives in Van Buren county. Mrs. ROTH had been a member of the Omish (sic. Amish) church, a branch of the Mennonites, for 46 years, and the burial services were conducted by a minister of that denomination, Rev. Benjamin Eicher of Washington county. In every relation of life she was an excellent woman, and as neighbor and friend will be missed almost as much as wife and mother. Among our early settlers she was especially esteemed, and a large circle of friends will sympathize with the bereaved family. The funeral occurred Sabbath, the remains being interred in the cemetery near her old home, and in spite of the almost impassable condition of the roads the attendance of friends was one of the largest ever seen in this county.
