HARRISONBURG-Amos Henry Burkholder, 80, a well-know, life long resident of Harrisonburg and of 29 Port Republic Rd., died at 9:30 a.m. yesterday in Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He had been a patient in the hospital since Wednesday evening.
A son of the late Rev. A. B. and Nancy Weaver Burkholder, he was born on July 30, 1893, in the Stone Spring community.
Mr. Burkholder was a well-known piano tuner for 45 years. He was one of the few remaining tuners who tuned a piano by ear in this area.
He was a lifelong member of Weavers Mennonite Church.
On October 27, 1915, he married the former Miss Josephine Weaver who survives him.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, Mrs. James M. Coakley of Dayton, and Mrs. Jacob R. Batterman Sr. of Bridgewater; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A son, Noland D. Burkholder preceded in death in 1968. Mr. Burkholder was the last surviving member of a family of 10 children.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Weavers Mennonite Church, conducted by the Rev. Alvin C. Kanagy and the Rev. Mahlon L. Blosser. Burial will be in the adjacent cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Samuel Janzen.
His body is at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home where friends may call, but the family will receive friends at his late home.
A brief service will he held at the Burkholder at 2:20 p.m. tomorrow, conducted by the Rev. Dewitt Heatwole prior to the service.
Friends and active pallbearers are asked to meet at the church at 2:45 p.m. tomorrow.
