Mrs. Mary Stella Hipps Brown, 89, of Etowah, went to be with the Lord, Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 after a long illness.

She was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Santa Eliza Thompson Hipps of Henderson County. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Herman, Robert and Henry Hipps.

Survivors include her loving husband, Lester John Brown, of the home; one daughter, Velma Brown Rogers and husband Bill of Etowah; three sons, Johnny Mack Brown and wife June of Fletcher, Robert Brown and Joel Brown of Etowah; three sisters, Madeline Kilpatrick of Jennings, Okla., Santa Vada Hargus, of East Flat Rock, and Margaret Huntley, of Brevard; three brothers, Horace Hipps of Hendersonville, Willis Hipps of Brevard, and Phralo Hipps of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Pisgah Gardens with Rev. Brian Henderson officiating.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Etowah Baptist Church, where she enjoyed worshipping with her friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Etowah Baptist Church, Etowah.
