H.R. Willis, Steubenville Ave., Has been notified of the death of his uncle, Harvey Ray Willis, which occured Monday at 10:30 P.M. at the home of his daughter in Hammonton.
Mr. Willis wan born in Jefferson Township July 30 1867, the son of Robert and Prudence, Pioneer family of Guernsey County. His early life was spent on a farm near Knob School House and at age 18 went to California for the benefit of his health. His wife, the former Alice Blair, was a also a native of Guernsey County. Her family moved to Graner, Iowa, where she and Mr. Willis were married Jan 13, 1890.
The couple returned to California where Mr. Willis was engaged in fruit growing. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1940, after which he retired from active business.
They made their home in Yuba City, Calif.
Following the death of his wife three years ago, Mr. Willis had resided with his daughter, Mrs. Wade Barkley, of Hammonton. Several nieces and nephews in Guernsey County also survive.
Funeral services will be held in a Chapel in Yuba City Thursday at 11 A.M. Burial will be beside the grave of his wife in Sutter City.
