Edward Francis Brunton, 79, son of William and Sarah Brunton, born April 30th, 1873 on a homestead near Ozawkie, Kansas, passed away suddenly March 7, 1953 at his home in Ozawkie.
He was one of twelve children. He was married to Rosetta Jane Puderbaugh on March 20, 1895 in Oskaloosa, Kansas. To this union there were born six children. After the birth of the first child they moved to a homestead at York, North Dakota where they proved out their claim, returning later to the homestead of his father where he farmed for several years, after which he was engaged in skilled work with construction companies. He has been in retirement for the past eight years. He has always been a follower of all types of sports. Being adept in sports himself, his sportsmanship and fair-play have been above reproach, thus, he established a worthy example for his children and all other youth of the community. He was well known and respected for his extensive knowledge of current events and developments of consequence nationally and locally. He was an inveterate reader in other fields, which gave him a broad insight in the history and development of his native state and in developments of national scope.
Surviving are his companion and six children; Mrs. Enid Spielman, Oskaloosa; Leslie D., Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mrs. E. Fern Vanderpool, Ozawkie; Mason E., Perry; Lex A., Ozawkie; E. Wayne, Lee's Summit, Missouri. Also Verd F. Smith, Prescott, Arizona, a nephew, raised from infancy to manhood. Four sisters, Mrs. Rose Brinkerhoff and Mrs. Mattie Kearns both of Compton, California; Mrs. Edna Casebier, Kansas City; Mrs. Nellie Harden, Lawrence. Two brothers, Sherman of Bakersfield and Dr. Delbert, of Sanger, California. Thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, relatives and friends.
He was highly respected and greatly beloved in his community and his departure was a great loss to his family and many friends.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Church of the Brethren at Ozawkie, with burial in Ozawkie Cemetery.
