She was born June 17, 1907, in Dennison, Ohio, to Joshua E. and Martha Evageline Cole.
Her family moved to Neosho when she was a child and she graduated from Neosho High School.
She married Ernest Cecil Balay on March 21, 1928. They lived most of their married life in Wichita, Kan. They were members of and very active in the Wichita Woodland Methodist Church. Upon Ernie's retirement as postmaster in 1972, they returned to Neosho where they were active members of the United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978. She was also preceded in death by four of her five siblings: Susie Lundstrom, Loyd Cole, Morris Cole and Juanita Queener, all of Neosho.
She is survived by one sister, Gertrude Brown, Stark city; two children, Ernest L. Balay and wife,Joan, Indian Wells, Calif. and JoAn Cofer and husband, C.A., Wichita, Kans.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; five nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Clark Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Gene Cole officiating. Burial will follow at the Neosho IOOF Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO.
