Alexia Dell Adams Stinnette

TABB - Alexia Dell Adams Stinnette passed this life and met her Lord and Savior Jesus Thursday, March 15, 2007. She was a native of Newport News and a longtime resident of the Tabb area of York County. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. An alumna of The College of William and Mary, Mrs. Stinnette was an educator in the public schools of Newport News and York County for 39 years. She served as school principal and as an Instructional Specialist overseeing such programs as English As a Second Language, Fine Arts, Reading, Title I and Gifted Education. Mrs. Stinnette was preceded in death by her parents, John McKenzie Adams and Tabitha Sadler Adams of Newport News. She held leadership positions so much that she will be greatly missed. She was a past president of the Newport News Reading Council and a board member of the Virginia State Reading Association. Mrs. Stinnette was a member of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for Key Women Educators. She was a member of the Comte de Grasse Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Historian of the Rev. James Blair Chapter of Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Cole Stinnette Jr.; two sons, Raymond Cole Stinnette III and John Callis Stinnette; a sister, Jacqueline A. Spangler; a niece, Constance Spangler Diakun; a great-niece and great-nephew. The family would like to thank the York County School Division and Bethel Baptist Church for their continuous support during Mrs. Stinnette's illness. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society for melanoma research, 11835 Canon Blvd., Suite 102-A, Newport News, VA 23606. The family will receive friends at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Peninsula Funeral Home followed by funeral service at 10 a.m. by Dr. Thurman R. Hayes Jr., Senior Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, with burial in Peninsula Memorial Park.
