"...Leslie (Les) Harold Ostrander was born on July 7, 1922, to Earl and Anna (Myhr) Ostrander in Thompson. He attended country school and graduated from Buffalo Center High School. On Oct. 6, 1943, he married his high school sweetheart, Luluvon Frowick, a marriage that lasted almost 60 years. He farmed south of Buffalo Center with his father, Earl, and then with his brother, Grant, for many years. In 1970, he went to work for Jensvold's Implement as a farm implement salesperson until his retirement in 1985. He was active in Farm Bureau and a member of a Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for more than six decades. Les was an avid camper and fisherman. His most memorable trips were to Alaska, Hawaii, New Zealand and Norway. He also loved to read Westerns and watch TV. He participated in multiple house renovations and passed on his woodworking and carpentry talent to his sons.
He was helpful and handy in the kitchen. After his retirement, he taught his children and grandchildren the art of lefse baking. His warm, homemade bread was always a welcome treat. As a father and grandfather, Les was always ready to lend a hand. Although a quiet man with a dry wit, he earned respect from his family and friends. He was honest, kind, loving, and nonjudgmental. Those who knew him well, cared deeply for him. He will be missed. Les passed away Wednesday (March 24, 2010) at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center. He is survived by his children: Carol Fisher and husband, Don, of Sydney, Australia, Vern Ostrander and wife, Cheryl, of Des Moines, and Mark Ostrander and wife, Jean, of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Jeff Ghaemaghamy (children Nick, Alexandra, Jessica); Debra (Ravaani) Kay Ghaemmaghamy (daughter Emma); Sandy Botterill and husband Sperrie (children Adam, Josh, Jemma); Megan Mertes and husband, John; Sara Ellingson and husband, Wade; Mike Ostrander and wife, Jennifer (children Aaron and Kaylee); Anna Ostrander; and Laura Ostrander; stepgrandchildren: Louise Fisher and husband, Peter Maher (son Liam); Jenny Ower and husband, Tim (children Matt and Francie); and Glen Fisher; brothers, Ray Ostrander and wife Nancy of Sun City, Ariz., and Grant Ostrander and wife, Barb, of Buffalo Center; and sisters-in-law, Hazel Ostrander of Clear Lake and Helen Frowick of Honolulu, Hawaii. Many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001, brother, Floyd Ostrander; and sister, Dorothy Swanson...."
