THELMA ROSE ATCHLEY, daughter of Charley Lewis and Elvia Lowrance Davis Green, was born July 16, 1929, in Laclede County, Missouri and ended this life's journey and entered the gates of Heaven on April 11, 2012, at her home in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years.
Thelma made a profession of faith at a young age, and at the time of her passing, had been a long time active and faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Lebanon. She taught many Sunday School classes through the years, was employed as the church secretary for a while and was also an active member of Gideons International Auxiliary. Thelma was the epitome of a Christian servant and lived her life accordingly.
On December 20, 1947, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, James Atchley. To this union was born two sons, both surviving. Prior to her passing, Thelma and James had celebrated sixty-four years of love together. It was rare that you saw one of them without the other. Their names were almost synonymous.
Although Thelma was a dedicated homemaker for her husband and sons, she also worked outside the home for several years. Those who had the pleasure of working with her through the years appreciated her attention to detail and kind spirit.
Thelma is survived by her husband James; two sons, Larry Atchley and his wife Carol of Rogers, AR, and Mike Atchley and his wife Sherry of Columbia, MO; one sister Grace Webb of Lebanon; five grandchildren, Christopher, Steven and Allison Atchley, Robyn Maner and Meredith Ritter; ten great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Lewis, Richard and Charles and twin brothers in infancy, Joe and Jean; four sisters, Irene Owens, Rachel Ruble, Daisy Knight, and Carolyn Green, in infancy.
Thelma was a loving wife, caring mother, fun-loving grandmother, cherished sister and loyal friend. She led her life as a walking testimony of Christian grace. She loved unconditionally and appreciated every moment of this precious life. She will be greatly missed.
