Lacy Appling, son of Mr R C Appling, of Gap Mills, Monroe county, died at St Luke's hospital Bluefield last Saturday night February 14 at 7:30 o'clock from injuries received in one of the most appalling automobile wrecks that ever occurred at or near Bluefield.

A terrible automobile accident occurred in Bluefield on Wednesday, Feb 11th, resulting in the death of two persons and the serious injury of three others. The party was returning to Goodwill after witnessing a show at Bluefield, and while running at a high rate of speed struck a dog on Princeton avenue. This caused the Ford car to slew around and plunge over an embankment. The machine landed on the N & W tracks and was smashed to pieces...
Lacy Appling, one of the party, sustained fatal injuries, and died Saturday night at 7 o'clock. He was a son of Mr R C Appling, of Gap Mills, Monroe county, and was about 21years old. He was a brother of Messrs Fred and David Appling, formerly of Ronceverte, but now residing in Fresno, Calif.
