Private David F. Eckard
Served with Co.F 5th Virginia Inf. CSA during the war for Southern independance of 1861-65 (aka The Civil War)
What he did after the war is unknown until he was admitted to the Confederate Veterans home in Higginsville MO. in Jan. 1910 when he was no longer able to support himself. He was collecting a pension from the state of Virginia of $15 a month for his war service to that state. He died July 10th 1914 of heart failure just the day after his 78th birthday. The attached copy of a tin type of David was found in the records of the home. It appears to have been taken many years before in the 1870s. Its scratched on the back "D.F. Eckard Room 34 east wing" The photo of his grave and the cemetery were taken in Sept. 2001
