Joseph was in Command of the 1st Texas Inf. CSA during the war of Southern Independance of 1861-65 (AKA The Civil War).
What he did after the war is unknown until he was admitted to the Confederate Veterans Home in Higginsville MO. on July 8th 1907. He had suffered a stroke a few months before and the Veterans home took care of him until his death on April 23rd 1910 on a massive stroke. He was 84 years old. The attached photo of Col. Bodenhamer is from the home records and appears to have been taken in the 1890s.
