Velma I Hufnagel, 99, of Oaklane Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Stronghurst, IL, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at Oaklane. Born Nov. 20, 1897, near Oquawka, she was the daughter of Charles L & Amelia Poerschmann Hufnagel. Miss Hufnagel lived most of her life in Oquawka & attended Cedar Oak School. She worked in Monmouth, IL and Oquawka, where she worked as a homemaker & caregiver. She also worked 10 years with the Cancer Crusade in Oquawka.
She was a charter member of Henderson County Republican Women's Club, a member of the Humane Society and a member of Oquawka United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sisters: Marjorie (Mrs. Omer C.) Beal of St. Charles, IL, and Gladys (Mrs. Thomas Marshall) Putney of Oquawka; nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers (Arthur and Charles) and one sister. The funeral for Miss Hufnagel was at Turnbull Funeral Home, with Pastor Suzanne Geer of Oquawka United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Oquawka Cemetery.
